CLARK FREEPORT – Transportation and Communications Sec. Joseph Emilio Abaya said yesterday the government is considering building a P7.2 billion Low Cost Carrier (LCC) Terminal at the Clark International Airport (CIA) following the first landing here last Tuesday of Emirates airline’s Dubai-Clark daily flights.

“The government is currently studying the concept of an LCC Terminal at Clark Airport because of its potential as gateway of the country,” Abaya told reporters during the launching of the non-stop daily flights of Emirates.

The Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC), headed by its president and CEO Victor Jose Luciano has submitted to the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) the LCC terminal proposal that would cost an initial P7.2 billion.

The proposed terminal would boost Clark airport’s capacity to take in 10 to 15 million passengers annually.

Luciano said that the LCC Terminal would also be capable of accommodating low cost carriers already operating regular flights here. These include Cebu Pacific Air, Air Asia Berhad, Jin Air and Tiger Air Philippines.

Asiana Airlines of South Korea, and Dragonair of Cathay Pacific also have regular flights here. Abaya said that “Pres. Aquino is fully supportive of the Middle East flights of Emirates Airlines at Clark Air via Dubai-Clark route.”

“Rest assured that the government wants to attract more airlines especially foreign carriers to mount flights at our airports in the country,” said Abaya who represented the President during the launching of the Emirates flights.
