MABALACAT CITY – Agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) swooped down on city hall here Friday last week to question three personnel from the office of Mayor Marino Morales, after they were named by a janitor as illegal drugs dealers.

The PDEA agents initially arrested one Robert Santos, also an employee of the city government, for alleged involvement in illegal drugs operations. During investigation, Santos named three personnel assigned at Morales’ office as allegedly being into drug dealing.

Sources from the local police who asked not to be named for lack of authority to give out information, said that PDEA agents then went to the Mabalacat city hall to question the three, but none of them were in office.

Yesterday, however, one of the three showed up to clear his name. He denied Santos’ claim that he was a dealer in illegal drugs. The two other employees have not reported to work since last Friday.

Mayor Morales said he would give full support to PDEA probers, as he vowed to intensify his administration’s campaign against illegal drugs.

“No stone will be left unturned. If city hall employees are involved, all the more should the full force of the law be applied to them. They are supposed to lead the community by example,” he said.
