CABANATUAN CITY – The Commission on Higher Education lauded on Wednesday the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST) for the effective implementation of its grant projects in time for the coming face-to-face classes.
“Ang pangako natin sa mga estudyante ‘yung babalikan nilang eskwelahan ay mas maganda na kaysa dun sa iniwanan nila noong March 2020,” said CHED chairman J. Prospero de Vera III.
Classes were halted in the wake of the government-imposed community lockdowns on March 17, 2020 amid the surge of the coronavirus disease.
De Vera said he visits state colleges and universities to officially to see their projects as well as preparations and readiness for the upcoming face-to-face classes.
The agency has extended several projects to NEUST for a program called CHED Grants to Innovating NEUST towards a Smart University.
“Para makita ‘yung kanilang mga proyekto, ano ‘yung kanilang ginagawa. Tinitingnan ko na rin kung paano sila naga-adjust sa Covid particularly flexible learning,” De Vera explained.
He said he was at the same time gathering inputs for the formulation of rules by the inter-agency task force.
NEUST, one of the biggest state-run institutions in Nueva Ecija with two campuses in this city alone and several others in different Nueva Ecija towns and cities, would start face-to face in March, according to its president Dr. Feliciana Jacoba.
This, as some 95 percent of its total workforce, including faculty and personnel, have been fully vaccinated, she said.
De Vera stressed that only fully vaccinated people will be allowed in in-person classes.
He added that NEUST has already retrofitted facilities for the program. Among the facilities visited by De Vera with other top CHED officials were those with information, technology, and engineering capabilities.
De Vera also led the distribution of internet or WiFi connection to the 16 community learning resource centers of local government units “for the benefit of the NEUST students as an assistance to their classes.”
