DepEd suspends classes in Cabanatuan

CABANATUAN CITY – Classes are suspended from Jan. 17 to Jan. 28 in all schools in this city due to alarming surge in Covid-19 cases, according to the city schools division office.

In a memorandum dated January 14, schools division superintendent Teresa D. Mababa reiterated the “Policy on Academic Ease and allowing the Suspension of Classes and Other Teaching-related Activities in the Midst of the Surge in Covid-19 cases.”

“This office announces the suspension of classes from January 17 to January 18, 2022, due to alarming surge in Covid-19 and in consideration of teachers’ and learners’ health and well-being,” the memorandum reads.

The education official said that the Curriculum and Implementation Division and the School Governance Operations Division shall make necessary adjustments in the school calendar to ensure the number of school days in the current school year remains in accordance with Republic Act 11480 which provides for school calendar of 200 to 220 class days.

Mababa enjoined all teachers and school personnel to observe health and safety protocols and follow the guidelines set by the inter-agency task force against Covid-19 during the suspension of classes.

Reports from the city health office showed that Cabanatuan has 419 active Covid-19 cases from the total of 6,601 it has logged as of Jan. 13, 2022.

Since the start of the pandemic, 5,799 have recovered while 384 have died, the report also showed.
