CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Awards have also been flooding this province where several towns remain inundated since typhoon Pedring.

Angeles City Mayor Edgaro Pamintuan announced recently the city government bagged the  Public Employment Services Office (PESO) Hall of Fame Award during the 11th National PESO Congress October 5 in Davao City.

Pamintuan said Angeles was declared “hall of famer” after again winning for the third time since 2009 the “National Best PESO Award” in the highly urbanized city category.

This, even as the capital City Government of San Fernando also declared as the Most Business Friendly Local Government Unit in the country, Best Public Employment Service Office and a new award, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Gawad Pamana ng Lahi and Seal of Good Housekeeping for 2011.

San Fernando Mayor Oscar Rodriguez said it was the third time his city was named the country’s most business friendly LGU under the component city category. It first won the distinction in 2010.

In Angeles,  Pamintuan said  new hall of fame recognition came after his city placed 4th among the top performing cities in the highly urbanized and independent component cities category in the Department of Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) Local Governance Performance Management System (LGPMS).

Pamintuan said DOLE cited PESO Angeles City for its “genuine dedication in the delivery of service and in creating job opportunities for local folk.”

Republic Act No. 8759 mandates the establishment of PESO in every province, city, municipality, state and private colleges and universities, non-government organizations, and community-based organizations “ to provide full employment and equality of employment opportunities” for Filipinos.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez said San Fernando’s award was for its “commendable efforts in adopting and instituting innovative practices in good governance in partnership with the private sector.”

“Every transaction is transparent and there is no anomaly. It means that our system here is one of the best. We are proud of it,” he added.

It was also the second time that the city is awarded as the Best Public Employment Service Office under the component city category.

Rodriguez also noted that “for the first time, the 2011 Pamana ng Lahi and Seal of Good Housekeeping award was given to the City of San Fernando by the DILG for winning the first place in the regional sector.”
