CABANATUAN CITY – At least 10 public schools have received school supplies for module production, face masks and face shields from the Division III of National Irrigation Administration-Upper Pampanga River Integrated Irrigation System recently.

Division III Engr. Elenita L. Toquero said that their office, under the supervision of UPRIIS department manager Engr. Rosalinda B. Bote, donated boxes of bond paper, ink and other school supplies to Schools Division of Nueva Ecija “to assist teachers and students in module printing and support other school needs.”

The 10 selected school recipients are Dr. Oliveros Elementary School (ES), Esing T. Angeles ES, Pepito B. Bernardo Memorial School (MS), Isla ES, G Villegas MS, Sto. Rosario ES, Dr. Sancho Manubay ES, Rajal Centro ES, San Pedro ES, and Pilang ES.

Toquero said the donation was a result of an initial virtual meeting between NIA UPRIIS and DepEd-Nueva Ecija representatives held on Oct. 5, where they agreed for the conduct of virtual turnover ceremony and signing of memorandum of agreement of information, education and communication materials and school supplies, due to increasing cases of Covid-19 transmission in the community.

The SDO-Nueva Ecija headed by schools division superintendent Jessie D. Ferrer also expressed interest for  the  conduct of a webinar on irrigation among their teaching personnel and students in coordination with NIA to impart the agency’s programs .

Ferrer said with gratefulness, “Whenever I heard NIA, I think about water, as water symbolizes life. NIA adds life to our SDO because of all the help and donations that were given to us, for our students, especially now we are battling the pandemic.”

Aside from DepEd and NIA-UPRIIS officials and key personnel, students from the school beneficiaries joined the activity and showed how thankful they were for the donations.

A video briefer about NIA was also presented during the virtual meet, Toquero said.

This program was in line with the desire of NIA-UPRIIS to support DepEd in establishing and strengthening the foundation of knowledge transfer for our younger generation thru continuing program of information amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, the official stressed.

It was consistent also with one of the directives of NIA administrator Ricardo R. Visaya to showcase NIA’s efforts in irrigation development in the creation/promotion of awareness in irrigated agriculture and the different undertakings of the agency.
