GAPAN CITY – A gas station employee was arrested while his companion managed to escape after a failed try to kill a15-year-old village mate in Barangay Pambuan here at about 1:10 a.m. on Sunday, police said.
Acting city police chief Lt. Col. Alexie Desamito identified the arrested suspect as Melvin Sibayan, 31, and his alleged cohort Jerson Flores, 23, both of Pambuan.
Desamito said Sibayan, a maintenance employee in a gasoline station, was nabbed in a hot pursuit operation a few hours after a failed attempt to kill the victim, Angelo, at around 10:45 p.m. Saturday.
“The victim was walking along the road of said barangay going to his home when, suddenly, the suspect (Sibayan), without any apparent reason appeared, pointed his gun to the victim and fired but the gun missfired, the suspect then pointed the gun upward and fired, giving the victim an opportunity to run and hide,” Desamito said in his report to acting Nueva Ecija police director Col. Rhoderick Campo.
The victim ran for assistance to the PNP Patrulya ng Bayan in the area which in turn conducted operation that resulted to the arrest of Sibayan.
Sibayan told police he handed over the gun, a .38 revolver, to Lumibao. Lumibao, however, was not around during the follow-operation but the weapon was surrendered by his father, Desamito said.
Sibayan who was placed under the custody of the city police station was charged with attempted murder before the city prosecutor’s office even as a manhunt operation is launched against Lumibao.
