BALANGA CITY – From the outside, most hospitals in Bataan on Wednesday seemed normal and quiet but online bed occupancy monitoring system showed that many of the hospitals are either already or almost filled with patients.

The state-owned Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) (main) in Balanga City, exclusive hospital for patients infected with the coronavirus disease, was 91.2 percent filled with only 13 slots in its Intensive care units available.

The BGHMC extension that does not cater to Covid-19 cases was 100 percent occupied.

Government-run Mariveles District Hospital and Mariveles Mental Wellness General Hospital were both 100 percent filled. Mariveles is considered as the epicenter of Covid-19 in the province and the only town under enhanced community quarantine with heightened restrictions.

Two other government hospitals, Bagac Community Hospital and JC Payumo District Hospital in Dinalupihan town were with 57.1 percent and 73.9 percent occupancy, respectively.

Private hospitals in Balanga City have varying occupancy rates. Bataan Doctors Medical Center has 56 percent, St. Joseph Hospital at 89.2 percent, Women’s Hospital at 52 percent, Centro Medico at 85.2 percent and ICMC at 93.6 percent.

Other private hospitals, Bataan Peninsula Hospital in Dinalupihan and Maheseco in Mariveles were with 100 percent and 76.9 percent occupancy, respectively.

Latest report of the provincial health office Monday showed there are 16,385 confirmed Covid-19 cases with 34 Delta variant and 2,611 active cases. There are also 585 deaths and 13,189 recoveries.
