LUBAO, Pampanga – Lakas-Kampi-CMD chairperson Amelita Villarosa said here yesterday that her party, which includes no less than 100 members of the House of Representatives, will support no other candidate for Speaker in the 15 Congress except Pres. Arroyo who is eyeing the congressional seat in the second district here.

This, even as Villarosa also said that the Lakas-Kampi-CMD executive committee is set to come out with a manifesto reassuring standard-bearer Gilbert Teodoro of full support.  She said the manifesto will be issued in today’s party executive meeting.

In an interview with Punto, Villarosa said members of her party will back moves to install Mrs. Arroyo as House Speaker.

This was also confirmed by another Lakas-Kampi-CMD stalwart  Prospero “Butch” Pichay who said that the President’s speakership “is the most logical conclusion.”

“She is our chairman emeritus and normally, you elect as Speaker the highest member of the party,” he said.

Villarosa said “It will be an honor if we elect her as Speaker. She is so knowledgable.”

“Sino pa ba ang kukunin namin (Who else should we choose?). I would like her to be Speaker,” she said.

Villarosa said Lakas-Kampi-CMD has numbers to install the President as Speaker even if the next president would come from the opposition.

Pichay, however, said that electing Mrs. Arroyo as Speaker would be “difficult” of the next president would come from the opposition.

“But if the next president will call for unity, then I think Pres. Arroyo is the right choice (for Speaker),” he said.

Most folk in Pampanga’s second district which includes Guagua, Bacolor, Sta. Rita, Porac, Sasmuan, Floridablanca and this town share the view that Mrs. Arroyo will win the congressional race.

Her main rival, Liberal Party’s Adonis Simpao, is virtually unknown to most local voters, as he has no political experience.

This, even as Villarosa declared that “Teodoro will definitely not back out from the presidential race.”

“It’s very definite. I can tell you he will not back out. More than 100 congressmen are for Gibo (Teodoro) and more than 40 governors are also for him,” she said.

Pichay echoed Villarosa, saying “Gibo is campaigning very hard.”

“I am sure local candidates are campaigning for him right now. We will know the effect of the local campaign within two weeks,” he said.

Pichay said that the full resources of Lakas-Kampi-CMD will be unleashed in the last days of the campaign period as “it is still too early” to do so.

He said that 70 percent of the campaigning would have to be done via television, as he stressed the need for “right message, right packaging and right placement” for administration candidates.
