BALANGA CITY — Bataan registered Thursday 224 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease which is considered as the highest number recorded in a day, the provincial health office reported Friday.
PHO chief Dr. Rosanna Buccahan said that lists of those who have tested positive of Covid–19 showed that the daily number has not reached the 200 mark since the pandemic started in Bataan. She confirmed that this number is so far the highest that has been recorded in a day.
Buccahan attributed the surge in Covid-19 cases to the movement of a large number of people, especially in Mariveles where there are thousands of laborers at the Bataan freeport.
The total number of those who tested positive of the virus rose to 13,748 with 1,779 active cases while those who have recovered reached 11,493 and total deaths to 476.
The 224 new confirmed cases have Mariveles as topnotcher with 124, followed by Balanga City – 34, Dinalupihan – 16, Limay – 15, Samal -10, Abucay – 9, Orion – 9, Orani – 5, Morong – 3, and Pilar – 3.
Mariveles also ranked No. 1 with 125 in the 176 new recoveries from Covid–19, with Balanga City at 22, Pilar, 10; Samal, 10; Dinalupihan, 4; Orion, 3, and Orani, 2.
The lone fatality for the day was a 71-year-old woman from Balanga City.
