CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Strong rains stalled last Sunday the timetable of Pres. Arroyo’s 32nd visit to her second district in this province.
The President first flew in Sunday morning to Mariveles, Bataan to launch a component of the province-wide Information Hub (iHub) project in Mariveles National High School-Poblacion.
She was supposed to proceed to Pampanga’s second district where she was expected at 1 p.m., but strong rains prevented the presidential helicopter from taking off.
The regional office of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) said that when weather improved, Mrs. Arroyo’s helicopter later pushed through with her 32nd sortie so far this year to her district, arriving in Floridablanca at about 2:25 pm.
The PIA said the President blazed through five barangays in Floridablanca alongside the holding of a PGMA Serbisyo Muna Caravan, a medical-dental mission that has become a trademark of her frequent visits to her district in the recent months.
Amid threat from typhoon Ramil, the President was again in her second district yesterday, in yet another visit which, Gov. Eddie Panlilio has often said, reflects her plans to run for a congressional post in next year’s elections.
By the account of the PIA, yesterday’s visit would be her 37th to Pampanga this year. Local media have noted, however, that of these 37 visits, 33 have been in the second district, including yesterday’s sortie.
The President’s sortie to Floridablanca last Sunday included inspection of a site for a proposed school fencing at the elementary school in Barangay San Roque, tour of a backyard chicharon factory and awarding of micro-finance assistance to home-based industries in Barangay Cabangcalan, inspection of the on-going construction of a two-classroom building at the Floridablanca Elementary School where the medical-dental activities were held and inauguration of a three-room school building funded from Malacanang’s social fund in Barangay Mabical.
Yesterday’s presidential visit included relief goods distribution in flooded Barangays San Pedro and San Juan in San Simon town, which is in Pampanga’s fourth district.
Then Mrs. Arroyo again went to her second district to distribute PhilHealth cards in Sta. Ines in Barangay Betis and inspect the site for a proposed road improvement in Barangay Sto. Cristo, both in Guagua. Panlilio, known to be her critic, used to be parish priest of Betis until he was suspended from priesthood upon his entry into politics in 2007.
The PIA said that from Guagua, President proceeded to her hometown in Lubao which she had visited twice immediately after typhoon Pepeng, also to inspect roads proposed for rehabilitation in Barangays Sta. Maria and Balantacan.
