TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija – A suspected drug peddler was killed in a firefight after allegedly selling over P100,000 worth of shabu to an undercover policeman in Barangay Sibul here at about 4:10 a.m. Wednesday.
Acting municipal police chief Lt. Col. Heryl Bruno identified the suspect as Marcelino Avila, resident of Barangay Homestead 2 in this town.
Bruno said an undercover policeman managed to buy 17.50 grams of suspected shabu in three packs from the suspect.
But the suspect might have sensed he was dealing with a policeman thus fired a handgun at operatives who “retaliated to defend themselves,” Bruno said.
Aside from the drugs, forensic investigators recovered .45 pistol and a motorcycle which reportedly belonged to the suspect.
Police said the operation was conducted in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the provincial PNP’s drug enforcement and intelligence units.
