CABANATUAN CITY – Five people were arrested while several fighting cocks were seized in a raid by police on an illegal cockfighting, locally known as “tupada,” in Sitio Libis, Barangay Palagay here Saturday afternoon.
Police identified those arrested as Renato Capulong, 60, of Barangay Sto. Niño; Roberto Agapito, 50, of San Roque Norte; Norman Glor, 52, of Daan Sarile; Albert Dennis Alvares, 46, of Nabao; and Salvador Cabrera, 48, of San Juan Accfa, all of this city.
Police said combined intelligence and special operations operatives led by Lt. Col. Alexie Desamito swamped on an illegal cockfighting at Sitio Libis in the said village at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Desamito said the suspects were caught in the act while some other people scampered to elude arrest.
In her report to Nueva Ecija police director Col. Jaime Santos, Desamito said they seized seven live and three dead fighting birds, 32 pieces of gaff, medicine kits for cocks and P3,770 bet money.
Charges of violations of Republic Act 1602 or illegal gambling were filed against the suspects.
