Elderly Japanese treasure hunter found dead

CUYAPO, Nueva Ecija – An elderly Japanese national was found dead, reportedly with signs of beating, in Barangay Columbitin here on Tuesday.

Police identified the victim as Norio Lurumatsuka, 82, of Tokyo, Japan. 

He was found dead inside a nipa hut owned by a certain Rolly Dumandan, 68, resident of the said village, according to Lt. Col. Erwin Ferry, town police chief.

Investigation showed the victim was hit by a hard object in his head.

The Japanese embassy was immediately informed about the incident, police said.

Ferry said the victim who reportedly arrived here from Baguio City and Tarlac was engaged in treasure hunting.

Ferry said a suspect was arrested in a follow up operation and is currently undergoing investigation. His identity has been withheld.
