PEÑARANDA, Nueva Ecija – The municipal hall and local health office here were put on lockdown for at least one week due to a surge in Covid-19 cases.

In an announcement, the local government said that the “temporary closure” of the town hall and rural health unit started in the afternoon of April 8 and will last until to April 16, 2021.

Mayor Joselito Ramos said in his memorandum that the suspension of work in their offices was “in view of the rising number of municipal employees who contracted the Covid-19 virus and the recommendation of the municipal health officer” to give way to mandatory contact tracing and disinfection.

As of Friday, this town has 28 confirmed Covid-19 cases of which 20 are under strict home quarantine, five are admitted to hospitals and three are in temporary treatment and monitoring facilities.

Aside from the said cases, two residents have reportedly succumbed to the virus while undergoing treatment in a hospital, the LGU reported.
