ANGELES CITY – As part of the celebration for Women’s month, the city government here began the distribution of 888 ‘buntis kits’ to some pregnant Angelenas on March 21, 2021.

Amid the pandemic, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., aims to safeguard the health, welfare, and safety of Angelenos, especially the vulnerable sector including pregnant women.

“Parte po ito ng six-point agenda ng ating pamunuan, para palakasin ang health programs sa ating siyudad, para maging mas maging maayos at mas mapadali ang pag-access dito ng ating mga kababayan, lalo na ang mga residenteng medyo hirap sa buhay,” Lazatin said.

This initiative, according to the local chief executive, is also in recognition of women’s important role and contributions in society, especially in helping nurture the next generation of Angelenos.

“Isa lamang itong paraan para pasalamatan natin ang ating mga kababaihan, para sa kanilang napakahalagang papel, sa pag-aalaga at paglinang sa mga kabataan, na siyang pag-asa sa ating kinabukasan,” Lazatin added.

For the initial distribution of ‘buntis kits,” the members of Gender and Development Office, headed by Mina Cabiles, and barangay workers went house-to-house in Barangays Cutud, Pulung Cacutud, Sapalibutad, Pulung Maragul, Balibago, Salapungan, Sto. Cristo and Ninoy Aquino.

“This week, mamimigay rin tayo ng ‘buntis kits’ sa natitira pang barangay sa siyudad. Pupuntahan natin lahat ng 33 barangays para dito,” Cabiles explained.

The recipients of the ‘buntis kits’ were identified pregnant women from the masterlist of the Barangay Health Workers and Midwives.

Inside each ‘buntis kit’ are three pieces of baby bib, three bottles, 1 pack of wipes, three pajamas, three baru-baruan, 20 pieces of diaper, and an eco-bag.

Aside from the ‘buntis kit” distribution, the city government through the GAD office also conducted a tree planting activity where 600 trees were planted at the Barangay Sapangbato Watershed.

Some 179 hygiene kits containing reusable sanitary napkins, and Beautederm products including Purete spray, balm, Belle powder, toothbrush, toothpaste, mouth wash, face towel, and bath soap, were also given to persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Camp Tomas J. Pepito, Barangay Sto. Domingo.

Both of these initiatives, according to Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, are also in support of the city government’s programs for the protection and preservation of the environment.
