ANGELES CITY — The call for a solidarity bike ride to save the 259 trees along Fil-Am Friendship Circumferential Road here has been rescheduled in compliance with the guidelines and restrictions set for the event.

Organized by concerned pedal-pushers, volunteers, and environmentalists, the Paldak Sikanan Para Kareng Tanaman/Solidarity Ride for the #Friendship259 is now set on March 7 at 4 p.m.

According to Harvey Santiago, lead organizer of the event, he received a response letter from the city health office on February 18 in reference to the revised letter he sent on February 15 seeking official approval for the event. The special permit was issued on March 1.

The response letter provided guidelines and requirements in full compliance with the health and safety protocols such as limiting the number of participants to 100 bike riders/cyclists only, maintain one-meter social distance among participants, wearing of face mask and face shield at all times, providing alcohol and disinfectant solutions to participants, and ensuring all participants are in good health condition as well as organize a medical team to monitor their state of health during the event.

Santiago said as part of the guidelines given which restricted the number of bike riders to 100, he has encouraged his fellow bikers to continue their call to save the #Friendship259 by participating in a virtual ride via their own route and schedule, and a selfie with one of the 259 trees to show their stand and support for the cause.

“Baka mamiye kaming slots for bike groups (with) 10 riders per group, then half of it could be individual registration though we will require them to provide their own banners or flaglets,” said Santiago.
