CABANATUAN CITY – A total of 34 farm implements were distributed to various farmers organizations within Nueva Ecija’s third congressional district on Wednesday, Feb. 10.

Third Dist. Rep. Rosanna Vergara who led the distribution at the city hall compound here underscored that the equipment that aimed to uplift the lives of farmers were provisions from the national government under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF).

“Hindi po yan galing sa LGU, hindi po yan galing sa probinsiya, galing po yan sa national government,” Vergara said.

Vergara had since explained that she supported the controversial Rice Tariffication Law precisely because of the huge assistance to farmers laid down under the P10-billion RCEF aside from being an international commitment of the country.

She promised to guard its implementation and press for some finetuning if needed.

The distribution was also in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture’s RCEF Program, Post harvest Development Mechanization (PhilMech) and Vergara’s congressional office.

The government, she said, continues to improve itssupport to rice farmers under RCEF as she called on recipients to take care of the equipment

With Vergara during the distribution were PhilMech Division chief engineer Don David Julian, Cabanatuan City livelihood and cooperative development officer Lucille Batalla, and other ranking city officials andmunicipal agriculturists.
