ITY — President Duterte has approved the appointment of a new assistant secretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways who is from this city in Bataan.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar administered last Friday the oath to Asec Wilfredo Mallari who rose from the rank being with the agency for 45 years.

Mallari was regional director of Mimaropa composed of the provinces of Oriental and Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan prior to his new post.

Asec Willy, as he is fondly called, started as part-time civil engineering aide with the then Ministry of Public Works and Highways in 1975 while still studying at Adamson University in Manila.

He became a regular employee of the ministry in December of 1977 after graduating and passing the civil engineering board exams in the same year.

Known for dedication and hard work, Willy was promoted to assistant district engineer and later as the district engineer for 14 years of the first engineering district of Bataan.

After implementing various projects in Bataan, he was transferred as DE of Las Pinas and Muntinlupa in Metro Manila where he served for three years and then to as Mimaropa assistant regional director.
