SUBIC BAY FREEPORT—
The Port of Subic, the 17th district collection unit of the Bureau of Customs has again surpassed its revenue target for the month of August although the container terminal workers were subjected to mass testing for the coronavirus disease during the period.

The port reported revenue collections amounting to P2.508 billion while its assigned target set by Aduana was P2.051 billion registering P500 million over target.

Port of Subic under the able stewardship of district collector Maritess Martin, still untouched by the recently reshuffle of top BOC officials aimed to improve collection efficiency, generated P17.786 billion over the last eight months of this pandemic global crisis.

The district was able to achieve its collection history recorded prior to the coronavirus era after the first quarter of 2020 by registering P2 billion average monthly revenues but registered abrupt decline during the height of the lockdown period of April and May by almost 40 per cent of revenues.

Instead of despair, the agency and Team Subic upgraded its marketing and customer relations services by extended working hours and quick completion of transaction and cargo release from the port terminals in one day.

Hence, revenues went anew in June up to August. The breakdown of increases was: June P2.768 billion; July P2.264 billion and August P2.508 billion.

Experiencing the crunch of April with P1.780 billion and May with P1.748 billion, although the revenues were still over the target set during crucial time, Martin took the drop in revenues as a challenge for the agency to strive forward and beat the effects of pandemic.

To this date, Port of Subic is still short of P6.645 billion to achieve its 12 months goal. Last year its cumulative revenues reached P24.432 billion and the Port was given due recognition by both the Department of Finance and the BOC for exceeding its target.
