SAN JOSE CITY – A 30-year-old delivery boy was arrested here arrested by composite city and provincial police personnel on Saturday for alleged participation in the murder of an executive assistant of former Gov. Czarina Umali over two years ago.
City police chief Lt. Col. Heryl Bruno said Ronald Magat y Geron, a resident of Barangay Tondod, San Jose City, was collared by police operatives from city police station and the 2nd provincial mobile field company at about 3:50 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, in Barangay Canuto Ramos this city.
The arrest, Bruno said, was made on the strength of a warrant for the crime of murder issued by Judge Eleanor Marbas-Vizcarra in connection with the killing of Mary Anne Hernandez on Jan. 14, 2018.
Hernandez, 38, was gunned down while on board with her two children and househelp a sports utility vehicle driven by her husband Carlito, 45, at about 6:30 p.m. in a gas station in Barangay Marcos, Talavera town. Carlito was wounded in the gun attack.
No bail was recommended for the accused’s temporary liberty, police said. Magat was allegedly the look out in the gun attack.
“This person was among the assailants responsible for the death of the victim Mary Anne Hernandez,” police said.
The Special Investigation Task Group Hernandez had filed in 2018 murder and frustrated murder charges against three other persons namely Anastacio Geron alias Asyong, 47, and his nephew Armando Geron, Jr. alias Ulupong, 26, and a certain Reynaldo Iglesia, 50, who surrendered to the Talavera police.
They were all residents of Barangay Tondod.
Investigators, however, have yet to establish motive behind the attack.
