2 Cavite fishers rescued in Mariveles

MARIVELES, Bataan
Security guards on Sunday afternoon rescued here two fishermen from Cavite whose small fishing banca was sunk by big waves caused by Typhoon Enteng.

Alex Borboran, Karpa II Security Services administrative officer, said that security personnel of Talaga Detachment in Mariveles headed by retired Philippine Air Force MSgt John Casignia spotted the fishermen shouting for help while in the sea.

They were identified as Bobit Jandog and John Paul Layson of Naic, Cavite.

According to their story, Borboran said, the two were fishing when their banca was overwhelmed by turbulent waves and sank. They were tossed by strong waves and swam until they reached the Bataan area in Mariveles.

“Our guards gave them food and later turned them over to Mariveles Mayor Jocelyn Castaneda upon instruction of Col. Benito Doniego, Jr. of Karpa. The mayor and Mariveles police chief Col. Ronald Almirolwere at the municipal hall even on a Sunday monitoring the typhoon,” Borboran said.

Police officers gave clothes to the two who were chilling. Borboran said the mayor promised to send the fishermen back to Cavite.

Karpa has existing memorandum of agreement with the municipality of Mariveles through the municipal disaster risk reduction management office to help in emergencies and disasters when exigency demands, he said.

Some of the guards have undergone Army reserve and water search and rescue trainings, Borboran said.
