CABANATUAN CITY –– At least 825 individualswere arrested for alleged failure to wear face masks and violation of physical social distancing protocols in the last four days of intensified operation, police said.
Police Lt. Gladish Romero, information chief of Cabanatuan City police station, said 10 Patrulya ng Bayan teams roam around the city’s 89 barangays to go after violators since July 24.
Each team is composed of two police officers and personnel from the city disaster risk reduction and management office.
“Kung ikaw po ay maaktuhan na walang face mask, obligado po na kukuhanin ka at dadalhin dito sa police station,” Romero said.
Violators were gathered, observing minimum health standard at the Rizal Park in front of the city police station, and made to watch videos on the coronavirus disease and lectured about the virus for a couple of hours.
They were thereafter turned over to barangay officials who in turn would impose upon them penalty of up to six hours community service, Romero said.
Minors, Romero said, were isolated and turned over to their parents who would bear the penalty as provided for in the ordinance.
Meanwhile, the Nueva Ecija inter-agency task force reported two new confirmed Covid-19 cases on Tuesday.
The patients include a 14-year-old girl who was earlier diagnosed with leukemia from Barangay Rio Chico, Gen. Tinio town, and a 25-year-old seaman from Barangay Sto. Tomas, Peñaranda.
The girl is admitted at a hospital in this city while the seafarer is in a quarantine facility in Metro Manila, the NEIATF said.
They were the 171st and 172nd confirmed cases in Nueva Ecija where eight have died of the disease.
