P93-M smuggled cigarettes seized

SUBIC FREEPORT – Three 40-foot containers seized by the Bureau of CustomsPort of Subic yielded 3,100 master cases of various smuggled cigarettes worth some P93 million.

BOC said the shipments were declared as LED lightsbut upon being subjected to X-ray examination and 100 percent physical examination they were discovered containing the contraband master cases of different cigarettes.

Port of Subic Collector Maritess T. Martin issued a warrant of seizure and detention on the shipment and its consignee is now subject to further investigation for possible violation of National Tobacco Administration (NTA) Board Resolution No. 079-2005, NTA Memorandum Circular No. 03, Series of 2004, in relation to Sec. 1113 (f) of RA 10863 otherwise known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

Martin commended the efforts of the men and women of the Port for their vigilance, even as she assured the public that the Port shall remain committed to its mandate of border protection in line with the directive and guidance of Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero. — With BOC-Subic PR
