ANGELES CITY — An 80-year-old man reported to be infected with the coronavirus disease hanged himself inside his room at a private hospital here.
A resident of Barangay Margot, the victim was initially diagnosed with “community acquired pneumonia” when confined at AMC last June 13. Five days later, he tested positive of Covid-19.
A duty nurse on routine morning inspection Friday had to forcibly open the door to Room 251 of the Angeles Medical Center in Barangay Lourdes Sur after finding it locked, police report said.
A wooden table blocked the door, in an apparent attempt by the victim to prevent anyone from stopping him to commit suicide, police theorized.
The victim was found hanging with “a pulse oximeter cord looped around his neck, with the other end tied to the handle of an overhead closet.”
Police said hospital staff tried to revive the patient but failed.
The hospital management is reported to have undertaken disinfection of the PUI section of the facility and placed under quarantine the health workers who attended to the patient. This, even as it assured the public that all guidelines and protocols are strictly being followed.
