BALANGA CITY — A female health worker was the newest addition to the list of confirmed cases of coronavirus disease in Bataan, raising the total number of those affected by the deadly virus to 165, the provincial health office reported Sunday.

Dr. Rosanna Buccahan, PHO chief, said the latest confirmed Covid19 case was that of a 27-yearold woman from Orani, Bataan.

With the new finding, the number of active cases rose to 14. She said the total number of those who recovered stayed at 141 and deaths at 10.

Buccahan said the good news was that 119 individuals newly-tested of the virus were found negative. These were among 2,830 persons whose test results were negative from 3,305 who have undertaken the laboratory exam since January 31.

Waiting for the result of the tests are 310 individuals.

Buccahan said testing of suspected Covid- infected individuals, especially health workers and other frontliners, are ongoing at the new polymerase chain reaction (PCR) laboratory at the Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center.

Gov. Albert Garcia said the laboratory has two “gold standard” PCR machines that can process 300 tests daily with estimated accuracy of 95-98 percent.

The governor said the BGHMC laboratory is augmented by a GeneXpert Rapid PCR machine issued by the Department of Health.

A PCR testing laboratory will soon be installed at the district hospital in Mariveles, Bataan, Garcia said.
