SUBIC BAY FREEPORT – Now anchored at Subic Bay is the Philippine Navy’s first missile-ready warship BRP Jose Rizal, arriving here Saturday, May 23.
The warship left the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea last May 18.
The Philippine Navy said the BRP Jose Rizal “is capable of fighting the 4 dimensions of warfare,“equipped with missiles, torpedoes, and other weapons system applicable in anti-surface, anti-air, anti-submarine, and electronic warfare. Bought for P8 billion, it has a maximum speed of 25 knots, and can stay out at sea for up to 30 days straight.
The crew will undergo the mandatory 14-day quarantine while the ship is at anchor.
Another frigate, the BRP Antonio Luna, also manufactured by Hyundai Heavy Industries, is set to be delivered to the country before the end of 2020.
