CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Opening of classes for SY 2020-2021 will be moved from June to August amid the continuing battle against the coronavirus pandemic.
This was announced in a virtual press briefing Tuesday by Education Secretary Leonor Briones, citing the opening of classes on August 24 and ending on April 30, 2021.
She said the decision to move the school year dates was arrived at in consultation with various stakeholders and reported to the Inter-Agency Task Force On Emerging Infectious Diseases.
While the school year usually starts in June, Republic Act No. 7977 allows it to take place “not later than the last day of August.”
Briones said that DepEd is considering various approach such as virtual online learning and offline programs in providing education for the coming school year.
“Puwedeng virtual [learning], puwede ring physical sa mga lugar na ina-allow ang physical na pagbukas ng eskuwelahan,” Briones said, even as she clarified that not all teachers and students would be required to physically report to school once classes begin as a measure to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
