BALANGA CITY — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Bataan has intensified its campaign against substandard products through the conduct of a seminar attended by various industries.

DTI Provincial Director Nelin Cabahug said the objective of the seminar is to convene and inform manufacturing and construction industries on how to determine substandard products.

“I hope with this seminar, we can boost our knowledge on product conformance and extend our partnership from industries to the consumers,” Cabahug told attendees.

Representatives from the Bureau of Philippine Standards discussed Republic Act 4109 otherwise known as the Product Standards Law as well as relative department issuances.

Moreover, DTI advised business owners and operators to ensure that all distributed products should conform to standards laws to further protect the welfare of the consumers.

Products should have mandatory certification and should be labelled properly as per the list released by DTI.

“The required labels for construction materials include name and address of the manufacturer; brand, trade name and recognized trademark; Philippine Standard or Import Commodity Clearance mark; and country of manufacture,” Cabahug added.

Establishments proven to sell products without mandatory certification or required labels shall be issued a notice of violation and may result to penalties. – PIA 3
