CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Starting April next year, the City of Munoz in Nueva Ecija, Bamban in Tarlac and this capital city will be the pilot areas for the implementation of the Philippine Identification System (Philsys) in Central Luzon.
Edgardo G. Pare, Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) regional director, said on Monday that the pilot areas will be finished in two months while the rest of the region will start registering in July.
The first part of the pilot involves biometric and demographic capturing processes.
Pare disclosed the PSA is expecting that all Filipinos will be registered in three years because per registration, only 100 can be served.
He said registration areas are still being negotiated as of now like malls and covered courts of local government units (LGUs) where there is strong internet connection.
He added that announcements will also be made through media and the LGUs for the start of registration, and that priority will be given to social welfare recipients, senior citizens and indigenous peoples.
Among the requirements for registration will be birth certificates.
“San Fernando will be finished in two months as a pilot area if it goes without any incidents,” he said.
“I will ask the mayor to help me with the announcement.”
“The processing time, end to end, will be within two months. But if the if possible, within a week,” he said.
“It will be simultaneous with the national census to be conducted by teachers.”
Once completed, the national ID will be the primary document that can be presented in any transaction.
However, Pare clarified that individuals still need to have a passport, driver’s license and Comelec ID to determine the residency of the individual which will not be reflected by the national ID.
Meanwhile, the PSA is observing the 30th National Statistics Month this October.
This year’s celebration carries the theme, “Data Innovation: Key to a Better Nation” which highlights advanced improvements in the agency’s services.
