CSF kicks off Women’s Week with oathtaking of new VAWC leaders

The City Government of San Fernando launched Monday this year’s Women’s week celebration with the presentation and oathtaking ceremonies of the newly-elected officials of three organizations mandated to address and eliminate Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC).

For the all-men group dubbed “Men Opposed to VAW Everywhere or MOVE,” the officers are Brgy. Captain of Malpitic Noel Tungol as President; Local Housing and Settlement Division Chief Louie Clemente as Vice President; University of the Assumption staff Ryan Fajardo as Secretary; Pampanga High School Guidance Counselor Exequiel Abad Santos as Auditor; City Civil Registrar Rimando Umali as Treasurer; University of the Assumption staff Denver Desolo and City Information Office staff Jerrold Dizon as PRO Internal; and, Brgy. Captain of San Isidro Ber Talao and Brgy. Secretary of San Agustin Dong Cruz as PRO External.

The new VAWC officers are Nimfa Alcantara of Brgy. San Nicolas as President; Jaime Macalino of Brgy. Del Carmen as Vice President; Evangeline Pineda of Brgy. Alasas as Secretary; Prescila Ocampo of Brgy. Del Pilar as Treasurer; Estrella Busalpa of Brgy. Dolores as Auditor; and, May Bondoc of Brgy. Pandaras and Maria Lucia Carreon of Brgy. San Pedro as PROs.

Lastly, leading the Pederasyon ng mga Kababaihang Fernandino are Zenaida Madriza of Brgy. Quebiawan as President; and, Mercevente Taruc of Brgy. Del Rosario and Evangeline Mallari of Brgy. Sta. Lucia as Vice Presidents for north and south sectors, respectively. They are also joined by Anie Capitli of Northville as Secretary; Analyn Mangoranda of Brgy. Sto. Rosario as Treasurer and Committee Head on Finance; Evangeline Unciano of Brgy. Sindalan as Auditor; Imelda Mallari of Brgy. Baliti as Committee Head on Social Services; Leonida Jiao of Brgy. Sta. Teresita as Committee Head on Livelihood; Vivian Ventura of Brgy. San Agustin as Committee Head on Education, Information and Mobilization; Chizz Singian of Brgy. Dela Paz Sur as Committee Head on Membership and Grievance; and, Janet Lero of Brgy. Maimpis as Committee Head on Election.

Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago, who led the oathtaking, congratulated all the officers for having been entrusted with the votes of their members.

Thus, he challenged them to take part in monitoring and protecting the rights not only of women but even of other genders in the society in support to the city’s continuous mechanisms to promote gender equality.

“We strive to make governance gender-responsive through the implementation of programs and policies that enable the participation of the entire community and all sectors,” he added.

Other activities for the Women’s Week from September 9-15 include book launching and storytelling of Nicolasa Dayrit-Panlilio’s life, film showing, tree planting, health awareness programs, livelihood seminars and trainings, and inter-school arts competition.

San Fernando annually holds Women’s Week celebration to give tribute to local heroine Nicolasa Dayrit-Panlilio whose birthday falls on September 10.
