MAGALANG, Pamp. – Mayor Romulo “Romy” Pecson yesterday defended his appointment Acting Municipal Civil Registrar Lucia De Leon, stressing that “we followed the rules and the acting head was qualified.”
In a phone interview, Pecson said De Leon “had been in public service in Magalang for a long time and is hardworking.”
“I also believe that it’s my power to appoint the person I want as long as the rules are followed and the appointee is qualified,’ said Pecson in the dialect.
The two-term mayor said his office had transmitted his letter to the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) secretary who was supposed to furnish copies of the letter to the SB members, including Councilor Elizabeth Gonzales.
“If there was problem in transmitting the letter within the SB, I believe that is their problem as we already did our part,” Pecson said.
Asked about the accusations of Gonzales against De Leon, Pecson said “Gonzales should investigate and prove her accusations.”
The mayor also said that they had investigated the complaints against De Leon and found out that his appointee “was clear of the charges.”
