ANGELES CITY – The Pinoy Gumising Ka Movement (PGKM) assailed Porac Mayor Condralito “Carling” De La Cruz for creating a task force on hog forms without including them and residents opposed to piggeries and poultries.
Sonny Dobles, PGKM environment desk head, said “it was illegal and unfair” for De La Cruz to create the new task force considering there was a task force which he also created through an executive order late last year.
Dobles said the last meeting between Porac local officials, PGKM, Lola Kontra Amoy (LKA) and owners of at least four piggeries in Porac last December ended when they could not agree on how many members should make up the task force.
“Then all of a sudden Mayor Carling created another one without even consulting PGKM, LKA or any of the complaining residents,” Dobles said.
He added that Joyce Velasco of Porac showed to them the order of De La Cruz naming her as a member of the task force.
In a statement, the PGKM said “De La Cruz is absolutely insensitive and we can’t help but think the mayor is benefiting from letting the piggeries continue to operate.”
In a chance upon interview, De La Cruz said “those opposed to the piggeries should also understand that some of the hog farms are following the rules set by the environment bureau.”
He said that the reclassification of land in Barangays Sta. Cruz and Manibaug-Paralaya would allow him to ask for the relocation of the piggeries in other villages.
De La Cruz said the ordinance on the reclassification of land “is on the second reading.”
For his part, Porac Councilor Mike Tapang said “it’s still a long way before the reclassification in both barangays start.” He said the cadastral map of the area has yet to be produced.
“So it’s not correct to say that the ordinance is on second reading when we haven’t hardly started yet due to the much needed map,” Tapang said.
The PGKM lamented that “the mayor is delaying the removal of piggeries which causes the spread foul smell and deadly diseases as reported in scientific studies in the country and in the USA.
Dobles said “De La Cruz is obviously pro-piggeries which is not beneficial to the people in general.”
