CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The lone suspect in the gruesome rape-murder of two young women in Apalit town on March 5 surrendered to police in his home province of Leyte last week, solving the heinous crime where victims are town mates of Gov. Lilia “Baby” Pineda.

Senior Supt. Edgardo Tinio, Pampanga police director, disclosed yesterday that Samuel B. Tomboc Jr., 23, of Hinundayan town, Leyte, surrendered to a member of the Southern Leyte police on March 25, apparently pressured by the hot pursuit conducted by a team led by Chief Insp. Jose Marie Basa, Apalit police chief.

Tinio, Gov. Pineda and Apalit Mayor Oscar “Jun”Tetangco led a press conference to announce the solution to the murder and rape of Gemma C. Manalansan, 19, of Barangay Sta. Cruz, Lubao and her fellow saleslady Princess M. Danan, 20, of Barangay Lacpao, also of Lubao, at the Natasha store in Apalit.

Danan and Manalansan were found lifeless, bloodied and half-naked at the RTW store outlet on March 5, but investigators believed they were killed on the night of Mach 4 by the suspect who used a knife.

Ryan B. Hamili, who is employed near the store where the victims worked, saw Tomboc emerged from the rolled up door of the Natasha outlet. The suspect worked at a nearby tiles store.

Ronnie Danan, father of Princess, said he was working in Saudia Arabia when he was informed that her daughter had been killed in Apalit.

He told them he had no daughter working in Apalit but in this city.

Danan disclosed that her daughter had been promoted and was transferred to the Apalit branch earlier this year.

The suspect is now detained at the police office here and accompanied by his parents.
