ANGELES CITY – “They are offering disservice and not public service to the people.

Thus said Pinoy Gumising Ka Movement (PGKM) Chairman Ruperto “Perto” Cruz as he assailed Councilor Bryan Nepomuceno whose family owns at least one piggery and one poultry farm in barangay Cutcut, here.

Bryan’s father, Robin Nepomuceno, is the outgoing barangay captain of Cutcut. His mother, Cecile, won in the recent barangay elections and will replace her husband.

Cruz said that the piggery and poultry in Cutcut had caused “severe damages on the people’s health and welfare of the businesses in the city.”

The PGKM blamed the animal farms from the foul smell spreading in the city.

“Over 20 years is the burden and it must stop now,” said Cruz.

This developed as Cruz and PGKM members are set to attend the city council hearing today on the piggeries and poultries in Cutcut. The committee hearing is set at 10:00 a.m.

Bryan, for his part, said during the council session last Nov. 23 that owners of poultries and piggeries should have been invited for their comments.

“Under this circumstances, Mr. Chairman, I think this particular discussion will be valuable, may I move that this particular matter be referred to the proper committee, Committee on Environment and for that particular hearing,” he said.

“Mr. Chairman, the poultry and piggery operators in Angeles City be advised of a pending issue before the committee so that they may also prepare for the hearing. Since this particular discussion in aid of legislation it will be best to hear from both sides of the coin. We could get the side also of the poultry and piggery operators,” added Bryan in the minutes of the Nov. 23 council session.

Cruz said Bryan had “not denied that they own the piggeries.”

He added that Bryan and his family “had been concerned of their family’s business and investment and not the public.”

Bryan disclosed that they will soon convert the chicken and pig farms into residential estates.

But Cruz said “the question is when, and the plan remains a plan.”

“Shall we wait for more people to suffer?” said Cruz.

“I approached Mr. Cruz with an open mind, informing them that we have been aware of the publication in the local dailies, in the radios during that time and it has called my attention. I was asked by my family, at that time there were no political motivation on my part. I have no plans of running yet, but I want that particular issue to be addressed,” said Bryan.
