(Job Order employees of Mabalacat City get two months of back wages last week for services rendered last year. Their salaries were delayed due to the disapproval of supplemental budget sought by the Garbo Administration)

With the so-called “ber” months that signal the start of Yuletide season still two weeks away, some city government workers in Mabalacat are getting early Christmas bonuses.

Not just one but two months’ worth of pay for job order (JO) employees were given last week, besting even the mandatory 13th month pay for regular employees.

A total of 2,725 JOs are recipients of backpays, representing their salaries for October and Nov 2018 when the then Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) did not pass a Supplemental Budget that included their salaries.

This time the new SP passed an allocation of P42 million for the back wages. It forms part of the P300 million supplemental budget of the city that was passed recently.

Rolly Quizon, one of the JO employees, has nothing but gratitude to Mayor Cris Garbo on the fulfilling his promise to the J.O. employees.

“Magpasalamat kung maragul kang Mayor Cris at ena kami akalingwan itang pangako na tinupad na at dakal a saup kekami ing gewa na,” the Mabalacat City News (MCN) FB account quoted Quizon as saying.

“Para akong nakatanggap ng maagang Christmas bonus,” the MCN quoted one unidentified JO as saying.

Atty. Emmanuel Ignacio, city administrator, said that the Garbo administration is thankful to JOs who persevered even at times when the salaries remained in limbo last year.
