CAPAS, Tarlac— To test the country’s new sports facilities before the upcoming 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, at least 700 participants are expected to join the New Clark City (NCC) Triathlon 2019.
The triathlon race is scheduled from October 19 to 20.
“New Clark City is a perfect venue for a triathlon since it’s the first [modern] facility intended for the SEA Games. Participants will have a chance to be one of the first to use the pools at the Aquatics Center and the track oval at the Athletics Stadium,” said GoClark sports and events director Jumbo Tayag.
GoClark is an organization that promotes health and wellness through endurance and multisport events.
The 20,000-seater Athletics Stadium and 2,000-seater Aquatics Center are already more than 90 percent completed.
“This is totally a fresh change from the usual venues in Subic and Clark,” Tayag said as he cited the new access road from the NCC to the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway which will boost accessibility in the area and ease traffic especially during main events.
The race also serves as a send-off for the national triathletes who will compete at the biennial games.
Tayag will lead the opening ceremony of the race together with Bases Conversion and Development Authority president- CEO Vince Dizon and MTD Clark, Inc. president, Engr. Patrick Nicholas David.
Celebrity athletes are also expected to join the race.
The first day will start with a 5-kilometer fun run and a triathlon for kids or NCC TriKids to be held in two categories: 1) 100-m swim, 6-kilometer bike, and 1-km run; and 2) 300-meter swim, 10-kilometer bike and 2-kilometer run.
The triathlon is open for children aged 8 to 14 years old.
The major race, which will happen on the second day, consists of three distance categories: 1) NCC Tri Full involves a 900-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike, and 8-kilometer run; 2) NCC Tri Sprint includes 450-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike, and 4-kilometer run; and 3) NCC Tri Full Relay which also involves 900-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike, and 8-kilometer run.
