CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) regional office is set issue notice of violation (NOB) against four piggeries in Porac and they are expected to be closed after seven days.

This was according to EMB regional director Lormelyn Claudio who met Bishop Ambo David, Pinoy Gumising Ka Movement (PGKM) and Kruzada Kontra Amoy (KKA) in her office here on Monday.

Claudio identified the piggeries as NDR, Kennon, Villa Aida and Edward hog farms in Porac.

She disclosed that the four piggeries had failed the test on hydrogen sulfide and ammonium.

Claudio said the results had been released on October 4 and they will immediately issue the NOB on the four piggeries.

“They have seven days to make a remedy to avoid closure. But more likely, they will not be able to do so. We are set to close them,” Claudio said.

But she stressed that the closure order against them “is not permanent.”

She added that they will be allowed to open again if they meet the standards set by the EMB and passed the test on ammonium and hydrogen sulfide.

For his part, PGKM Chairman Ruperto Cruz said his group is not satisfied “from the tests on the piggeries conducted by the EMB.”

“What if they only tested mineral water. We can’t help but doubt because they only monitored by themselves,” said Cruz.

He recalled that earlier last month the PGKM, EMB and Mayors Edgardo Pamintuan of Angeles City, Oscar Rodriguez of the City of San Fernando and Condradito De La Cruz of Porac all agreed to form monitoring teams to check on the piggeries and poultries in Porac and Angeles. The monitoring team will have one representative from each group and mayor.

Sonny Dobles, who was asked by Cruz to join the monitoring team, disclosed that he was “never really invited by the EMB” during the inspection conducted from September 7 up to Sept 21.

“I was invited once but it was already too late to meet the deadline set. At one time, the PGKM was given invitation but it was given late and it was not clear. How can you join the team led by an insincere EMB,” Dobles said.

Dobles, Cruz, David and residents who are complaining against piggeries are set to meet with Mayor De La Cruz and Vice Mayor Dexter David at the Porac town hall on Friday to discuss the problem. The meeting was initiated by De La Cruz and David.

But the PGKM said “only a concrete and decisive action against piggeries will convince them that the town officials mean business,”

“It’s like circus and we are fed up. We need action against polluters. It’s either closure or relocation,” said the PGKM.
