MABALACAT, Pamp. – The head of Mabalacat Traffic Enforcement Group (MTEG) yesterday vowed to solve the traffic mess at the downtown area here caused by the newly-installed traffic lights.

MTEG chief Chook Santos said they would operate the traffic lights manually during rush hours to drastically minimize traffic jams.

Santos said they had been “helpless” because they do not have the keys yet needed to operate the four traffic lights along McArthur Highway in Barangay San Francisco.

Santos said he had been informed by the Traffic Management Group (TMG) that they will deliver the keys within the week.

Earlier, residents blamed the traffic lights for the worsening traffic problem at the first class municipality.

They said the duration allotted for each interval is not right causing heavy traffic. Jaime Castro of Barangay Mamatitang also blamed the trucks passing along the area.

He urged local officials to consider making an ordinance banning the trucks from passing at the downtown area here.

“They should find permanent alternative route for the trucks,” he said.
