ANGELES CITY – “A truly outstanding congressman not just in words but in deeds.”

Thus said local officials as the accomplishment report of 1st District Rep. Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin for 2009 was reported to them earlier this week.

City Councilor Maricel “Marang” Morales said Lazatin had served his constituents well through “significant legislations and worthy projects.” Lazatin was recently awarded an Oustanding Solon Award by a Metro-Manila based group for the second consecutive year.

Morales disclosed that Lazatin had filed at least 184 resolutions and bills before the House of Representatives last year.

She added that foremost of which is House Bill 1775, “an act creating a special task force on global warming under the department of natural resources.”

IC Calaguas, chief of staff of Lazatin, said their bill had been approved by the Senate and later approved into law by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. She added that it was later substituted into House Bill 5982 which Lazatin co-sponsored with Paranaque Rep. Roilo Golez.

“Congressman Tarzan has a firm commitment to protect the environment, especially in these challenging times,” said Calaguas.

In the 2009 report submitted by Lazatin to his constituents and fellow elective officials, the solon disclosed that they had infused some P317 million worth of infrastructure projects in the first district composed of this city (P43 million), Magalang (113 million) and Mabalacat (161 million).

Magalang Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) President Rodolfo Gonzales said “it’s only now under Lazatin that we had felt to have a solon who truly cares for us.”

“The number speaks for itself. We had been given more funds for our town needing immediate projects,” said Gonzales, a vice mayoralty candidate in the 2010 elections.

San Joaquin, Mabalacat village chief Davidson David, for his part, thanked Lazatin for the “vital road projects in his village.” He disclosed that Lazatin had funded at least two road projects in San Joaquin.

“We have asked help from many leaders but to no avail. It’s only now that we are enjoying full support from our solon,” said David.

Mabalacat Councilor Froy Galang said Lazatin had “not only served well but has maintained an unblemished public service record.”

“The name Tarzan also means Mr. Clean, as in no involvement in graft and corruption scams for over 20 years,” said Galang.

“That is the shining glory of the Tarzan Lazatin legacy,” he added.

Lazatin first won as congressman in the same district in 1987. He later became a mayor here for three straight terms before becoming a solon anew in 2007.

Galang also hailed the veteran politician for helping provide free education in Mabalacat.

“What more could you ask from Lazatin? He is a complete public servant as well,” he said.
