CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – An “Alay Lakad” will be held here on November 26 aimed at helping fund the scholarship programs of Mayor Oscar “Oca” Rodriguez, organizers of the event said.

Jennifer Bonifacio, chairperson of Alay Lakad 2009 dubbed  “Lumakad Kayanakan, Isulong Ing Kasaplalan,” said the assembly time is set at 5:30 a.m. on two areas – Pampanga Capitol grounds and near the Philhealth Building at the entrance of Lazatin Blvd.

Bonifacio said the walk would promptly start at 6:00 a.m. and the two groups will converge at the Villa del Sol Subdivision.

“This year’s theme of “Alay Lakad” is very reflective of Rizal’s reference to the youth as the hope of our future. This is also the reason why the public and private sectors of the City of San Fernando continue to sustain their united efforts for the promotion of the welfare of our youth particularly the out-of-school youth (OSY), who are the beneficiaries of the Alay Lakad project,” said Bonifacio in the invitation letter. It was also signed by Rodriguez and Dr. Lourdes Javier, president of the Alay Lakad Foundation.

“Out strong partnership and sustained financial support through the CSF Alay Lakad Foundation have provided scholarship for the OSY’s collegiate, technical/vocational education; financial assistance to the self employed (SEA); and training for livelihood  skills through the Alternative Learning System (ALS),” the letter said.

“A number of the beneficiaries have finished their courses and are now economically self reliant and productive members of our society,” it added.

“To add life to the affair, special awards will be given to the biggest and most colorful delegations; likewise, to the youngest and oldest participants. Instead of the Ms. Alay Lakad, poster-making contest, essay and poetry writing in Kapampangan about the theme will be held a week before the walk,” it said.

Bonifacio urged participants to bring streamers and placards to identify their respective groups and its oneness with this year’s theme.
