The Department of Trade and Industry Regional Office III (DTI-3) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and its service institute, the Philippine Science High School – Central Luzon Campus (PSHS-CLC) continue their partnership through the upgrading of the latter’s Fabrication Laboratory equipment.
In the recent launching of the PSHS-CLC Fablab on April 29, 2019, DTI-3 recommitted its support by providing PSHS-CLC with an upgrade of its Fablab equipment worth Php 2.1 Million. This will complement the other equipment already procured by PSHS-CLC as well as the previous equipment provided by DTI-3 to PSHS-CLC in 2017.
Theresa Ann O. Diaz, PSHS-CLC Campus Director, expressed her gratitude to DTI-3 for providing additional equipment to their Innovation Center. She noted that through the Fablab equipment, students research and learn about product designs and labeling, as well as about creating product prototypes. DOST-3 Regional Director Julius Cesar V. Sicat added in his message that with the full complement of Fablab equipment and its operationalization, the Fablab can be very useful and productive to different users especially businesses. He hoped that micro, small and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs) can visit the Fablab and make use of the equipment. DTI-3 Regional Director Judith P.
Angeles reiterated the call for MSMEs to maximize full use of the Fablab equipment to make creative products. She noted that the MSMEs who attended the launching should start thinking on how to avail of the services of the modern Fablab equipment. She said that the first Fablab equipment they provided to PSHS-CLC in 2017 included a Laser Cutting Machine and a Bench Milling Machine.
The Fablab project is funded under the Shared Service Facility (SSF) program of DTI which aims to improve the competitiveness of MSMEs by providing them with machinery, equipment, tools, systems, skills and knowledge under a shared system. At present, DTI Region 3 has established a total of 240 SSFs throughout Central Luzon, partnering with cooperators such as cooperatives, LGUs and schools like PSHS to help increase the productivity of entrepreneurs.
