MABALACAT, Pampanga – It will not be a two-cornered fight for the mayoralty race in this town. And the political scenario in the 2010 elections would not just be exciting but unique.

Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales would not just be running against mayoralty aspirant Dr. Tiglao, who lost in the vice mayoralty race in 2007.

Reports said the mayor would slug it out against his own daughter, Marjorie Morales-Sambo who is planning to run for mayor.

Posters of Marjorie with a slogan “Mabalacat, in love ako sayo (I am in love with Mabalacat)” appeared along MacArthur Highway, in Barangay Dau last week but were immediately removed.

In interviews with political and jeepney drivers association leaders, they told Punto that Marjorie had tried to lure them as her supporters in a recent meeting, announcing her plans to run for mayor.

“It’s okey for anyone to dream and run for mayor. But running against your father is quite unhealthy within the family circle,” said a leader who was at the meeting with Marjorie.

“I hope that it will end in the direction where there will be a happy ending for both the mayor and her daughter. Family first,” he added.

An incumbent official disclosed to this reporter that they had tried to offer Marjorie to run for any elective post except for mayor.

He said Senior Board Member Cris Garbo, a friend-ally of Morales, has yet to have a runningmate in the Lakas-Kampi party. Two members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan are from the first district comprising Mabalacat and Magalang.

“We tried but failed. Marjorie really is hell bent on running for mayor against his own dad,” he said.

Sources said Marjorie had also tried to convince top Councilor Noel Castro to be her runningmate for vice mayor.

But Castro declared his intention to run for vice mayor and will run as an independent.

Marjorie is the wife of former town councilor-contractor John Sambo of Sto. Tomas town. She was a former Sanggunniang Kabataan (SK) chairman in Mabalacat.

Both Morales and his daughter have yet to issue statements.
