Thus said City of San Fernando Mayor Oscar “Oca” Rodriguez as he came out of the Manila Cathedral to pay his last respect to the late former President Corazan “Cory” Aquino on Monday night. He was given a bottle of mineral water and a hard boiled egg just like the others who came to visit Aquino at her wake.
“The spirit of giving is very much alive here at Cory’s wake,” added Rodriguez, who was with some 25 delegates at the wake, including Councilors Alex Patio, Reden Halili and Ruping Dumlao.
“The spirit of giving is alive at Cory’s wake,” said Rodriguez, who was offered a glass of mineral water just before he boarded his car at the parking lot of the area.
He said “Cory’s legacy is bringing back the Democratic institutions in the country.” He described Aquino “as a committed, sincere, honest and kind leader.”
Rodriguez disclosed that he and the first woman president in South East Asia had been close since the late 80’s when he was provincial administrator.
The mayor met Kris Aquino after passing by the coffin of the late president. He also met Sen. Mar Roxas, who is close to the Aquino family.

Meanwhile, Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales described the late former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino as a “great leader” following the concelebrated Mass at the church in Xevera-Mabalacat North on Tuesday.
“This Mass is for her. She is a deeply religious person more than anything else,” said Morales. He asked Fathers Ed Laxamana, Chito Carlos and Roel Dizon to celebrate the Mass for Aquino.
“An upright person, both in her private life and during her tenure as president, Tita Cory signified an enduring symbol of truth, justice and compassion, even in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds and challenges and emerged triumphant over all of these,” said Morales in his speech.
He added that she was an “icon of democracy not only in the Philippines but also for the world.”
Morales said Aquino had frequently visited this town when she was president. He added that Aquino had supported his constituents all-out after the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in 1991.
Joining Morales in the Mass were Vice Mayor Pros Lagman, former Councilor Liza Pineda and other municipal officials.
