ANGELES CITY – Mayor Francis “Blueboy” Nepomuceno has ordered the police to immediately solve the murder of barangay captain in Pulung Maragul here.
Nepomuceno, in statements released by City Administrator Mark Allen Sison, said “we have ordered the speedy solution of the assassination” of Pulung Maragul Village Chief Edilberto “Play” Cayanan. The victim was talking with people in front of a carnival at about 8:30 p.m. on Saturday when a lone unidentified suspect shot him at least twice in the head, it was learned.
Cayanan is the 4th prominent personality murdered here since December. The police have yet to make a breakthrough in any of the four fatal gun slaying cases.
“However, due to various angles, the PNP [Philippine National Police] is doing their best to investigate and have a precise lead to the mastermind,” said Nepomuceno.
Asked to comment on the failure of City Police Director Sr. Supt Pierre Bucsit to file charges against the suspects in the murder of the four prominent personalities, Nepomuceno said: “According to the Angeles City Police Office the victims are not targetlocked meaning this were random crimes and no one wants to serve as witness.” “The relatives refuse to cooperate despite having an idea (of the cases).”
Before the murder of Cayanan, three others were killed: Businessman Arwind Ting in December; trader and part-time disc jockey Heherson Punzalan on January 18; and 21-year-old Joven Pineda Deala, younger brother of International Rapper Allan Pineda of Black Eyed Peas, on February 3.
According to the police, the witnesses failed to have a good look of the suspect’s face because it was covered by his hat’s visor. The gunman was described to be medium build, dark complexion and about 5’ 2” in height.
Police said two live bullets and three spent shells from a .9mm caliber pistols were recovered in the crime scene.
Cayanan was pronounced dead on arrival at the Armando Garcia Hospital after the incident.
