LIMAY, Bataan – Police on Sunday announced the arrest of one of two suspects, a brother of a police officer, in the shooting of a mother and her young son in Carbon Site, Barangay Lamao here Saturday night.

Chief Inspector Emelito Dela Cruz, newly-installed Limay police chief, said hot pursuit operations after the shooting resulted in the arrest of Warner Cabatuan, 32, in Lamao.

โ€œThe other suspect, PO1 Shaolin Cabatuan, is nowhere to be found and subject of manhunt operation,โ€ De la Cruz said.

PO1 Cabatuan is assigned at the Orion, Bataan municipal police station. Both brothers reside in Lamao.

โ€œIt appears that suspect Warner has a pending case in court for violation of RA 7610 or Child Abuse Law and misunderstanding about a debt wherein the complainants were the victims,โ€ Dela Cruz said.

The case on child abuse reportedly stemmed after Warner hurt the boy while he and the mother were quarreling about two years ago.

Police said Melanie Quicho and her two sons aged 9 and 11, were on their way home to Carbon Site when shot by the suspects using .45 pistols at about 6:15 in the evening.

The suspects then fl ed on board a silver-colored sedan towards Mariveles town.

Melanie and her younger son were rushed to the Bataan General Hospital but the mother was declared dead on arrival. Liway Gajo, sister of Melanie, said the son was already in stable condition.

The other son was unhurt.
