ANGELES CITY – With the city’s more than P2 billion annual budget, councilor Jesus “Jay” Sangil is proposing an increase in the salaries of nurses, midwives, medical aides and other volunteers at the Ospital Ning Angeles (ONA).

Sangil, sangguniang panlungsod’s minority floor leader, said this is the right time to ask for a pay increase for the public hospital’s personnel.

Sangil said ONA nurses should get at least P14,000 a month, midwives P9,000 and nursing attendants P8,000. He added that ONA’s budget is P63 million.

During the recent budget hearing, Sangil noted that medical staff in nearby public and district hospitals in Pampanga and Central Luzon have higher salaries. The legislator said other component cities and municipalities are ranging from P19,000 to P20,000 in the monthly salaries of their medical personnel.

“It’s better late than never,” Sangil said on his proposed salary hike for the medical staff.

“Given the huge budget, it is but proper to give the right and reasonable compensation to our lowly city workers,” he said in filing the resolution for the increase.

Sangil also reiterated his proposal to give additional allowances for daycare teachers, barangay health workers, barangay nutritionists and barangay service point officers.

Sangil also asked for additional medicines and other medical supplies for indigent patients.
