CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Three-term Bacolor Mayor Jose Maria “Jomar” Hizon filed his certificate of candidacy (CoC) at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office here on Tuesday.

Hizon was accompanied by his parents, Angelo and Lolita Hizon, to the Comelec as well as during the preceding press conference at his residence at St. Dominic Corinthians here.

Hizon said he is running as an independent candidate and has no running mate or provincial slate.

Hizon said he consulted with family especially his parents as well as his brothers and sisters before deciding to run for governor.

“As usual I am running as an independent,” he said.

“Alang bisang lumaban anya lilibutad ku balang atin pilinan deng tau (Nobody wants to fight that is why I am putting myself in the midst so that the people will have a choice),” he said.

“Enakuman matapang, masikan ku lub para king probinsya tamu (I am not courageous, but I am strong willed for the sake of our province),” he added.

Hizon will face Vice Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda who also filed his CoC for governor under the ruling Kambilan party.

Bacolor was once completely devastated during the lahar event in 1995 due to the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo four years earlier.
