This was gleaned in a letter sent to Lubao Mayor Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab on August 7, 2017 by the Provincial Nutrition Committee (PNC) led by Rustica Butiu, provincial nutrition action officer.
The letter was to inform the local government unit here of its performance in the evaluation for the Search for 2017 Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (OBNS) and the 2017 Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) of all nutrition-related programs, projects and activities within the year 2016.
According to Butiu the ranking was conducted among nine municipalities in Pampanga with active municipal nutrition councils (MNC) which are Lubao, Arayat, Candaba, Mexico, San Simon, Magalang, Bacolor, Guagua and Sasmuan.
Among the enumerated municipalities, Lubao scored 99.88 % of the possible 105% in the 2017 MELLPI for municipalities, ranking first, followed by Guagua with 96.74% and Sasmuan with 93.50%.
The overall ranking was culled from various indicators that include monitoring and nutritional intervention for school children and MELLPI performance in the barangay level.
Lubao’s barangay nutrition scholar, Nilo M. Paguio of Barangay Sto. Cristo, outshone his counterparts from other towns in the Performance Criteria where the participants were graded based on their efficiency in identifying and locating targets of nutrition programs, delivery of basic services and timeliness in the submission of reports.
Paguio also received the highest score in the Validation Criteria that measured the BNS capability in program management, site visitation and efficient validation of weights of sample preschoolers.
Among the Top 5 barangay nutrition scholars, Paguio notched an overall score of 96.75%.
The provincial results of the OBNS and MELLPI, Butiu said, will be used as basis for the regional evaluation of the National Nutrition Council in Central Luzon.
