LUBAO, Pampanga–The local government unit here was among the first municipalities in the country to release the mid-year bonus of its employees.
On the afternoon of May 15, 2017, Mayor Mylyn Pineda- Cayabyab issues an order to the LGU’s finance managers to release the bonuses for the town’s casual and permanent employees as well as for its elected officials.
Lubao granted its 137 casual employees with P8,976 each; while permanent employees and its 11 elected officials were each given onemonth worth of their salaries.
Lerma Natividad, municipal treasurer, said that Mayor Cayabyab instructed them not to delay the release of salaries and other benefits due to government workers.
A total of P4,491,238 has been released to cover for the mid-year bonuses of the town hall employees as mandated by Executive Order No. 201 signed in February 2016 by then President Noynoy Aquino.
The municipal leadership has included the bonus in its general fund under the 2017 municipal budget.
Natividad said the early release of the bonus is proof of the municipality’s good financial condition and efficient collection of existing municipal taxes and other lawful impositions.
Mayor Cayabyab has recently tasked all department heads to upgrade the town hall’s services using the criteria of the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award as guidelines.
A recipient of the SGLG award last year, Lubao is one again eyeing its inclusion in this year’s awardees.
Cayabyab believes that when services of the municipality are heightened, business locators and taxpayers willfully do their share such as the settlement of their obligations to the government.
“We also want to give our employees benefits and privileges that are due to them to encourage them in furthering their services to the public,” the mayor said.
